Major Victory in Congress!
Yesterday, after months of delays and non-stop lobbying on Capitol Hill by MPP and our allies, Congress has finally reached a preliminary agreement on a spending bill that includes protections for medical marijuana states!
The bill will carry over an amendment that prevents the Department of Justice from spending any funds to interfere with the implementation of medical marijuana programs and effectively stops federal prosecutors from targeting patients and providers who are in compliance with state law. These protections would continue until September 30, 2018, when they must be renewed again. We hope you will make a contribution to MPP today so that we can continue to defend the rights of medical marijuana patients and providers.
MPP has been fighting on Capitol Hill for years to protect state-level medical marijuana programs. Our federal policies director, Don Murphy, pictured below speaking with Sen. Cory Gardner, has been working the halls of Congress educating lawmakers on the benefits of medical marijuana laws and fighting back against misconceptions.
MPP has also been mobilizing citizens to contact Congress through social media, email alerts, and digital ads like the one below.
Despite this win, Attorney General Jeff Sessions continues to threaten to use the Justice Department to undermine state laws and to spread misinformation about the benefits and impacts of medical marijuana, while President Trump is actually urging the death penalty for cases that could include some state-legal marijuana producers.
MPP has been a driving force behind much of the progress our movement has made at the federal level. With your support today , MPP can soon achieve the permanent reforms necessary to protect state marijuana laws from any future federal interference. But we can't do it without you and your support for the MPP mission.
